Retail Store and Shopping Plaza Cleaning on Long Island
E & J Cleaning provides commercial cleaning for Long Island retail stores, boutiques, and shopping plazas across Nassau and Suffolk County. We clean before you open or after you close, protect your merchandise, and handle everything from daily floor care to quarterly deep cleaning so your store always looks its best to customers.
Retail cleaning has two competing priorities: the store has to look spotless when customers walk in, and nobody can touch the merchandise, fixtures, or window displays without careful handling. General office cleaners often miss this nuance. Shelves get disturbed, signage gets wiped with the wrong chemical, and window-display glass gets streaked right before an opening rush.
E & J Cleaning has been cleaning Long Island retail spaces since 2005. We schedule before open or after close, train crews on no-touch-merchandise protocols, and use chemistry that is safe around textiles, electronics, and printed signage. Whether you run a Main Street boutique, a Route 58 big-box anchor, or a shopping plaza with multiple tenants, we tailor the cleaning to your hours, traffic patterns, and merchandise mix.
What Our Retail Cleaning Includes
- Sales floor care. Daily vacuuming, mopping, spot-cleaning, dust control on fixtures and shelving, and touch-up between rushes. Fixtures and merchandise are not touched beyond dust control.
- Entry and entry-mat maintenance. Entry glass, door pulls, entry mats, and the first 15 feet of floor that catches all the tracked-in soil from the parking lot or sidewalk.
- Window display and storefront glass. Interior and exterior display windows, entry glass, and signage surrounds on a scheduled rotation.
- Fitting rooms. Mirror care, seat bench wipe-down, hook and hanger touchpoints, floor vacuum, and waste removal. Returned merchandise is not handled.
- Restrooms. Full disinfection, restocking, high-touch wipe-down, and floor care. Restroom supplies can be bundled into your contract through our supply fulfillment program.
- Stockroom and back-of-house. Stockroom floors, break areas, employee restrooms, and receiving dock touchpoints.
- Periodic floor restoration. Strip and refinish for VCT, sealed concrete, or tile, and carpet extraction for carpeted sections. Scheduled quarterly or seasonally based on traffic.
How We Clean a Long Island Retail Store

- Store walk with manager. Supervisor visits after close, walks sales floor, fitting rooms, stockroom, restrooms, entry, and break areas. Reviews your opening schedule and any merchandise-sensitive areas.
- Written scope. Zones, frequencies, chemistry, and supplies in writing. Clear boundaries on what we clean and what we do not touch.
- Crew onboarding. Crew briefed on store layout, opening time, merchandise-protection protocols, and alarm procedures if we close up.
- Schedule tuned to your hours. Most retail cleans happen after close or before open. Weekend-heavy stores may get a mid-week deep-clean rotation.
- Supervisor audits. Weekly walks to catch any fixture dust, window-glass streaks, or mat-edge wear before a customer does.
- Seasonal adjustments. Holiday retail has different traffic and merchandising. We adjust frequency and focus through Q4 and sales events.

Retail Cleaning Across Long Island
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you clean during store hours or after we close?
Will your crew touch our merchandise or rearrange displays?
Can you clean shopping plaza common areas?
How often does a retail store need professional cleaning?
Daily nightly cleaning is standard: floors, fitting rooms, restrooms, glass, entry mats, dust. High-traffic retail (grocery, big box, malls, busy plazas) needs day porter coverage as well. Weekend-heavy stores often add mid-week deeper cleaning for fitting rooms and bathrooms. Floor strip and wax typically every 4 to 6 months for VCT, more often for very high traffic.
Will your crews work around our customers during business hours?
Yes for day porter coverage. Day porters handle restroom restock, fitting room reset, entry mat vacuum, spill response, and quick refresh during your hours. Full cleaning happens after close. For 24/7 retail (some pharmacies and convenience stores) we work zone-by-zone overnight.
How do you handle fitting rooms which need constant attention?
Day porter resets every 30 minutes during peak hours. Nightly deep clean includes wall and mirror wipe, floor wash, hanger reset, bench wipe, and full dust. Fitting room cleanliness directly impacts conversion – dirty fitting rooms lose sales. We focus here.
What’s your protocol for restrooms in a retail environment?
Hospital-grade disinfection on every surface, fixtures, doors, and floors. Restock paper products, soap, and seat covers. Mid-day touch-up via day porter if traffic warrants. Suffolk and Nassau retail health codes require specific cleaning standards which we meet or exceed.
Can you handle entry-mat care during winter and rainy weather?
Yes. Walk-off mats and entry tile get extra attention during Long Island winter: snowmelt residue, road salt, sand, and water. Daily extra mopping of entry zones, mat shake-out and replacement when soaked, and weekly mat deep clean. Reduces slip-fall risk significantly.
How do you keep showroom and storefront glass spotless?
Daily streak-free interior glass clean using deionized water. Exterior storefront windows weekly or more for high-traffic retail. Door glass gets multiple touches daily because of fingerprints. Mall storefronts coordinate with mall management for facade glass cleaning schedules.
Are you available for post-season resets and inventory periods?
Yes. We do deep cleans after holiday season (typically January), back-to-school resets, and inventory periods. Adjusting schedule for these is standard. For mall locations we coordinate with mall management on after-hours building access.
